TWO FAVOURITE PHOTOS FROM THE ROADTRIP

WALKING WITH DINOSAURS

We just got home from a road trip to the States to go see the Walking With Dinosaurs (http://www.dinosaurlive.com) show at the Spokane Arena. It was really incredible to see life-size dinosaur puppets running around the stage. Sophie got a little bracciosaurus as a souvenir and she talks to it like it's her little baby, sleeps with it, and had to make a special place for it in her room when we got home. I caught it playing her piano this morning!

The Walkmen - Louisiana

A fantastic summer song. I saw these guys at Coachella two years ago and they are the band I remember most from that year.

COONS!

At about one o'clock the other night Jon and I both woke up to a rustling noise coming from the kitchen. We layed there in the dark waiting for Sophie to come through our door calling for one of us. When the noise turned to scuffling and banging, Jon got out of bed, went into the kitchen and turned on the light. There in our little pantry was a pile (yes, a pile!) of no less than SIX raccoons all trying to feed from the tiny cat food bowl! Three of the coons ran back out through the cat door, but two of them (maybe the ones on top of the pile who hadn't reached the bowl yet) weren't leaving anytime soon. Jon's attempts at scaring them out only drew blank stares. Jon had to scoot them out with a broom in the end. They seemed totally baffled at why they had to leave. If I wasn't so stunned I would have taken a photo. I was secretly hoping they'd come back to pose for me, but I guess it's a good thing they haven't returned. Between them and the skunks sharing our property, I'd say were 'this close' to opening up a petting zoo.

HEAVEN

Heaven Is...
the cool evening mountain breeze blowing in through the open window. Laying there on the bed in the darkening light after a long, hot, sticky day, listening to your neighbours' voices drifting in; and with a sigh, slowly letting yourself fall to sleep...
I'm so there.

CANADA DAY

We spent the whole day down at Lakeside Park sitting on a blanket in the shade, enjoying the music and people. It was a gorgeous day topped off by a great little fireworks display. It was Sophie's first time seeing fireworks and she "oooed and awed" the entire time. Lexy splept through the entire thing.
